Bitter is the New Black {or blog}

Oh bloggy blog, my apologies for neglecting you!

Not trying to make excuses or anything, but last week I was simply swamped with a couple of design projects. Then, when I had huge plans for blogging and some blog redecorating over the weekend, I screwed that all up by spending my saturday shopping. Ok, the shopping part wouldn’t have been so bad since I usually blog late at night… and herein lies the problem.

I bought a new book.

You see, I’m a reader. I mean, an obsessive reader. I absolutely adore books, chick lit and memoirs being my favorite. I haven’t read a book so far this year, which is odd for me, and I was honestly craving something to read. A friend of mine, Joanna, and I often discuss books and she was telling me about her most recent read. She said it was hilarious and a “must”, so I picked it up while at the mall Friday.

OMG. Can I just say that someone stole my life? This book is a memoir of Jen Lancaster and it’s earily similar to MY life. I kept reading excerpts from the book to designer husband and he would say “Shut up, it does not say that!” – but oh yes, it did. She even had a dog that she had to leave at her parents for a weekend that never came back home with her because it fell in love with her dad. Um, hello, do you recall Daphne?? Daphne is my pom that lived with me for 2 years before I was forced to move back in with my parents for a short amount of time when my mother was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. When I finally moved out, Daphne refused to follow me because of her fondness for my dad and sleeping beside him in bed. Three years later, she’s sitting pretty at my parents house just loving life and is completely happy seeing me only twice a month and during video chats on Skype. I have joint custody of my dog. Lovely.

So anyway, I started the book Saturday night and just finished it up last night. It was amazing and is quite possibly my favorite book of all time. She even passed up Sophie Kinsella!! I swear, it’s love. True love.

She has two other books out which I plan on reading soon. I’ll forewarn you on my blog before I start them. Basically, when I go MIA for 3 days, know that I’m just reading a book.

Despite the actual lake of blogging, I do have a ton of pics and random video from the last few days to compile in to one or two posts, which I’ll work on shortly. First, I have to get this snowflake background off of here and do some spring redecorating. I know, i know… it’s not exactly spring yet, but I’m trying to rush it along.

I love finding new books! Do you think, if you'd read the book prior to moving back with your parents, you would have kept Daphne away from your dad!? Hehe. My boyfriend knows that if I'm reading he isn't mean to interupt!! Findinag a great book is rare!!

This sounds like an awesome book! I love to read but I never know WHAT book I would like. I usually end up choosing a practical non-fiction self elp (Stop Procrastinating Now, etc.) and then don't enjoy it.
I may have to start reading Chick books! They sound like so much more fun!

Oh, there sooo much fun! I highly recommend this book to get you started! Also, anything by Sophie Kinsella (the Undomestic Goddess is one of my favs by her!). Chick Lit is awesome :)

Hahaha, yea, I always tease my dad that I'm not letting him touch any other furkids that we adopt because animals just LOVE him!

And oh, yea, when I'm in “reading zone”, hubs knows to leave me along until I come out of the den, haha.

Ooooh, I LOOOOVE Jane Green!! Yes, definitely check out this book because if you like Jane Green, you'll like Jen Lancaster! :) Let me know what you think of it after you read it, I'm excited to know!

LOVED LOVED LOVED! After our twittersesh last night I actually crawled in bed with it again! AND I'm so bummed she's not coming to the West Coast AT ALL. Prob good, I would freak out…I get way more stalkey over writers than anyone else. It's like she was inside my head or something. SEEE??? Like that. I'm crazy.

Is the book not fabulous??? LOVE IT!

I was pretty surprised where her book tour is taking her this year – not many places I would have expected to see where on her list. Sooooo excited she'll be in the Queen City though!

How bad is this – I actually emailed her to tell her that I used to live in an apartment above the Barnes & Noble she'll be signing at and then proceeded to tell her about the amazing coffee shop around the corner. Stalk much? Um, yea.

I'm totally making a goodie bag of things mentioned in the book to take to her. I'm more than sure that's been done already, but I'll find a way to top it.

Honestly, I'm shutting up now. SWEAR I'm not usually like this, but I'm totally an obsessive fan of hers since reading that book. I don't get like this over anyone (well, Johnny Depp – but he's in an entirely different category than any other human being on the earth.)
