This morning, the wonderful Designer Hubs and I headed out semi-early to get in to some trouble and enjoy a long day together. After checking a couple of things off of our list, we ended up at Terrace Cafe for brunch. We had been meaning to stop by this place for months and never have, so I was SO excited to go there today! Making reservations had crossed my mind before we went… but I thought “nah, it’ll be fine.” Um… yea, next time I should do that. Actually, the wait wasn’t that bad at all – we hovered near the espresso bar and mulled over the menu and discussed what kind of java we needed. I’m not going to lie – I can be somewhat of a coffee snob. Their menu looked amazing, so I was hopeful.
Within about 10 minutes we were taken to our table in the upstairs loft overlooking the dinning room. When we sat down, I told hubs that this was definitely on my list of new favorite places. I’m a sucker for pretty decor and I’ll gladly pay more for average food when it’s accompanied by an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. Terrace is gorgeous. I could live there.
Look at their water glasses. Adore them!

After staring at the coffee menu for 10 minutes while waiting, I still ended up going with my norm…. soy latte 130 degrees.
Hubs had the french press. Both were good, but I was slightly disappointed that the latte lacked any pretty design. I was sure I’d get some sort leaf, heart, etc that cafe barista’s usually create in the foam. Oh, I was excited though because the french press that came was the Bodum one that I have in the boutique! I love this thing to reese’s pieces!
I was completely starving and had my heart set on breakfast food. I flipped open the menu and there were two entire HUGE pages full of breakfast options. YUUUUM!
But…
Everything. EVERYTHING involved eggs.
I haven’t eaten eggs in a year and half. I can’t eat eggs.
OK, not *everything* – there were pancakes and waffles AND french toast.
Meh. Not in the mood for sweet stuff.
There was also oatmeal… and we all know of my love affair with oatmeal. But I was wanting FOOD. Food food. Like hearty, filling, feed me now I’m starving food. I wanted protein. Luckily, by this time {after flipping through the menu and sipping on a latte for 20 minutes} it was finally 11am… which meant the lunch menu was on the table.
I finally decided on the Soup & Sandwich combo. The soup du jour was a cheddar potato, so I couldn’t eat much of it. I did, at least, taste it – it was unique. Full of flavor and a little on the salty side – not something I’d try again. The sandwich, however, was delightful! Hawaiian chicken salad with pineapples and grapes on croissant. Totally not something I’d usually order {I’m weird about chicken}, but completely yum.
Hubs had this omlette thing with grits, toast & some yummy fruit stuff in a cup. {Like that description??} He said it was simply amazing.
Aside from the very limited vegetarian/lactose free items for breakfast, everything was great. Our server was meh… he had the personality of a blade of grass, but he was truly busting his ass and it was busy. I still think you can manage to smile and be pleasant with all of your tables though.
They recently started serving dinner and we’ll definitely be back for that. I’m also making a brunch trip again soon to try the oatmeal that I bailed on. A table next to us ordered it towards the end of our meal and it look FANTASTIC. There was tons of fresh fruit with it and it LOOKED like there was granola atop the oatmeal. YUM! Should’ve ordered it. Next time.
Huh. I feel like I should give the place a rating or something now. Totally wasn’t writing this as a review. If I were, however, it would get 4 noms out of 5. Noms? Yes, noms. THIS, my friends, is forever stuck in my head…
Clearly, I’ve been up way too long because this completely cracks me up!
Nom songs aside, this place is sure to become one of my new haunts. If you’re in the beautiful Queen City, be sure to check out Terrace Cafe. They’re on Facebook and Twitter as well.
