Designer Husband is a Saboteur! I *knew* I could bake cookies!
If you stopped by this weekend, you’ll know that I broke the cookies that I attempted three times for the cookie exchange that I was invited to. Well, here I was all down and blue because my domestic disablement seemed to be getting worse. Turns out, my husband sabotaged my cookie baking. Hmph!
Last night, we were at the grocery store picking up food for the week. He mentioned wanting to try to make the cookies again to see if he could figure out what went so terribly wrong with them. We still had everything we needed to make them except for chocolate chips and butter. When we get back to the butter area, hubs grabs a box of Blue Bonnet stick butter and all of the sudden, it hits me.
DW: “Babe, did you realize that last time you brought home Blue Bonnet Light?”
DH: “No, did I?”
DW: “Yep.”
DH: “Less fat & oils?”
DW: “Yep.”
DH: “Huh. How about that?”
When we got home, I went to the fridge to make sure that it was, indeed, light. Sure was…
He didn’t even realize that he picked up the light and I didn’t have enough sense to pay attention to the box or even check to see if Light made a difference. Apparently, it does. Hugely. In fact, the box even tells you this:
Not only does it tell you that, but it’s in big bold red letters.
So then, I look at the new box that we just bought.. you know, the regular butter.
And sure enough, the back of it tells you that it’s *great* for baking. Awesome.
How ’bout that.
Now that I know what happened, I wasn’t about to let hubs make this batch and have it turn out all perfect and tasty. I threw him out of the kitchen, got out my regular butter to let it soften, and began to actually bake some dag’on COOKIES!
Everything mixed together beautifully this time. Now that looks like some cookie dough!
Of course, I can’t go on just looks alone. I have to taste a spoon full {or three} for quality assurance.
I threw those puppies in the oven for a few. Because the others burnt a bit {lot} I was being obsessive and literally stared in my oven for 8 minutes and 16 seconds before deciding to take them out. I was not going to let these burn.
Unfortunately, this resulted in me taking them out a bit early.
I’m not going to lie – I love chewy cookies. I’d much rather have raw dough in the middle than some crunch around the sides. Hubs prefers his a bit more done… but… oh well. Saboteur!
The next batch that I took out of the oven got to bake a bit more.
They’re still doughy and not as fluffy. Maybe I’ll try again this weekend and see if I can leave them in long enough to fluff up without flipping out about burning them? In the end, I’m super happy with them. They’re delish.
Bottom line: I CAN BAKE COOKIES!
I’m so proud. Baby steps, folks, baby steps.
Do you like your cookies soft & chewy or crispy & crunchy?
