Packing away Christmas. {with help from cats}

I always leave my Christmas decorations up for as long as I can. I love them. They help to make it the most wonderful time of the year. Can I be much cheesier? I sure can. But I won’t.

This is the earliest I’ve ever taken the tree down. And the only reason that I’m doing so this early is because I want to paint. I’ve been putting it off since we moved in back in November and I absolutely loath the color on our accent wall. Hubs describes it as melted peanut butter brown. Personally, I wasn’t aware that melted peanut butter was a different shade than non-melted PB, but I’ll just give it to him and not say anything.

Back to packing up my Christmasness.

We brought all of the boxes up from the garage and started on the tree first.

Ben wanted to help.

Of course, Bella wanted to see how much Ben was helping.

Glittery string thingy? Don’t mind if I do!

And then Bella decided that she, too, would help.

Good times.

Once I finally recovered all of the ornaments that the cats scattered about the living room, it was time to close the boxes and say goodbye until November.

Honestly? It pretty much bums me out.

How long do you leave up your Christmas tree?

    1) Whenever one of my cat chews on anything glittery or stringy he throws up all over the entire house. Which is super endearing.

    2) Our tree usually comes down at Epiphany or as close to it as I can get. I always get mopey because I like the decorations, but the extra clutter makes me a little twitchy, so it ends up being bittersweet? I’m equal parts sad to pack it up and happy it’s gone.

I have a few things left up. I have three small trees upstairs that my two big girls have begged me to leave. I think they’ll go down this weekend (although I’ considering leaving the white one in the playroom and letting them decorate it for Winter and then Valentine’s Day, but I think my husband would cry)

I take everything down and store it away on New Year’s Day – it’s been a tradition of my mom’s forever, and I decided to carry it on. I would love to leave it up longer, but i always decorate the second weekend of November (bday present to myself!) so I figure that a couple of months is enough. I love Christmas decor -it’s so gorgeous!

I usually take everything down on New Year’s Day. This year though I took it down on the 29th because we were having a big house party on the 1st and frankly there would not be enough room in the house for the tree and the people. Love the Christmas Decor, but love to get my house back!

You know, it actually IS nice to have some extra space in here again. My decor takes up a lot of room, lol.

Hey, can’t argue with tradition! :)

I put our tree up around the same time, and when I think about rationally.. yes, it’s plenty of time to enjoy it, lol. :)

    1) One of my mom’s cats ate ribbon out of a gift basket on Christmas eve & threw it up overnight. Waking up to that beside my bed was a new kind of Christmas magic. :

    2) Glad I’m not the only one who gets twitchy over clutter. Agreed on the bittersweetness of it all – I can totally get that.

LOVE the idea of decorating one of the tree for Valentine’s Day… how cute would that be?!
