Sick days, cant’s, cans, dreams & plans.

I’ve been running a fever since Saturday night, which means… I’ve accomplished absolutely nothing over the past few days. Well, except for enormous amounts of sleep. Sometimes I think that I actually do hibernate.

Anyway, today I decided to take a sick day. I slept in, stayed home and didn’t get out of my pajamas all day. I didn’t even bother to properly brush my hair – I just pulled it up in to some messy pile on top of my head. I did tie a cute ribbon around it, though… so there’s that. Seeing as how I work from home and, well, for myself… taking a sick day really wasn’t any different than any other day now that I reflect on it. Hmm.

When Hubs came home from work, he laughed at my sick day ensemble. I sent a photo to my BFF that I was on the phone with at the time, and she assured me that I look adorable. I like being comfy. Hubs just doesn’t understand my affinity for knee high socks with funky patterns paired with cozy patchwork pj pants. They make me feel so much better when I’m feeling blah.

Today wasn’t a total loss, though. I worked on some plans. Or, well, pre-plans. I made a to do list of things I need to do before I make a master to do list.

Basically, I’m in the beginning phases of designing my new home office {squeeee!} My projects are getting bigger and requiring more time, so I’ve decided that I should migrate from working on the sofa and using the ottoman as a desk in to a proper workspace. It’ll force me away from daytime TV, at least. That is, until I buy a new TV for the office.

So, we went to Ikea on Saturday so that I could buy a desk. They have the whole “build your own” thing where you pair whatever legs with whatever top you want. I went in with an idea and then came home with something completely different.

Don’t laugh yet…

That’s an unfinished, gigantic, solid slab of pine.

I emailed a pic to my dad and he was surprised, saying that he didn’t think I’d choose something so “plain jane,” that it looked like something more for him. Even Hubs was surprised when I picked this one out. BUT… just wait. I’m not finished with this. I have plans… plans that include printed black & white photos and lots of clear coat. Ooooh.

Also, please ignore the paint swatches in the floor – I would have moved them, but was being lazy. I hate background clutter in photos, so I’m cringing right now.

Oh, and also while at Ikea, I decided my new office would require a floor lamp. I present you with this:

I haven’t decided yet whether it’s uniquely cute or just plain ugly. What do you think??

Back to the planning. As with anything I do, if I’m going to do it… it has to be pretty.

Mom got these for me at Christmas. I was SO excited to break them out and put them to good use. :)

I’m working on some pretty fun “getting things done” ideas and coming up with ways to be more productive while setting and tracking goals. Some fun spreadsheets and lists are being born of this and I’ll have them up as free downloads on the blog soon.

At the very core of all of my planning are these things that I want to build upon ….

Now, I just need a plan in place to actually do this.

What’s your favorite way to stay on top of your to-do lists?

PS – I’m *still* in my pj’s. And in the floor. Did I not just buy a desk?!

I use Microsoft Excel at work 90% of the day, so of course I squeeze in a little “personal” spreadsheet-making time. Of course they’ve gotta be colorful :) I have one gigantic workbook with multiple tabs for multiple lists… the hubs and I are both listmaking nuts!
    Hope you feel well soon!

The lamp is definitely something I would have chosen. Good luck on your decorating and organizing.

The way I keep up with my to do list is multi-faceted. I use Toddledo on the computer to keep track of things I need to get done – this helps me with master lists.

On a daily basis I have a note card where I have these columns
    To Call
    To Do
    Days Agenda
and most importantly my MIT (Most important Tasks) of which I can only have 3.
If I only get those 3 things done, I count the day as good! :)

Don’t worry about still working from the floor- you can’t be expected to use the desk until it’s got the photos & clear coat on it. ;)

Loving the sick day outfit- reminds me of my every day outfit. &I hope you feel better soon!!!

I HAVE to ask- do you know where your mom got those notepads? I freaking need them. Like, need them as much as I need oxygen. Or chocolate.

LOL, exactly!! And thanks… yea, it’s pretty much my everyday outfit too… I won’t lie, haha.

The notepads were actually found at a TJ Maxx! ;) The brand on the back says Lady Jayne Designs – maybe you can find them online? Hope so!

Hmmm… I think you’re on to something with just making them all in one workbook. If I do that, and then just keep that one workbook open, I’ll be much more likely to see everything as opposed to what I’m doing now. Thanks for the tip, Steph!
