This is one of my favorite songs by Elevation Worship, but now it has a much more profound, special meaning to me.
I was really excited for church this morning because my sister & niece are staying with us during spring break, so it was going to be their first visit to Elevation. What I did expect was incredible worship and an amazing sermon. What I didn’t expect? To get baptized.
There were 12 scheduled baptisms for the 11:15 service today at the Matthews campus {just 15 minutes from our Blakeney campus} and all the campus were able to watch live via simulcast. After all of the scheduled baptisms, Pastor noted that most were female, so he called for 5 men to come down to the tank. More than five were ready & willing…. but it didn’t stop there. Spontaneously, Pastor Steven told everyone that no matter what campus you were watching from, if you wanted to be baptized, leave now and head to the Matthews campus. Hubs and I just looked at each other with a “let’s do it!” expression.
I can’t believe how many people felt it on their hearts to do the same thing. Amazing just doesn’t seem like a sufficient word to explain it. Why? Because a total of 134 people showed up to be spontaneously baptized today, two of which were my husband and I.
It’s been amazing, overwhelming, emotional and fantastic. God moved through Charlotte today and he wasn’t playing around.
His Mercy Reigns played during the baptisms. It was perfect.
