I’m getting pretty lame in my {approaching 30} age. I’d have to say that one of my absolute favorite things to do for a wild night out on the town is putting myself in a food coma at one of Charlotte’s amazing, locally owned restaurants. Add a few friends to the mix and I’m a happy girl. So, when American Express Serve asked me to test drive their new service and take a few friends out to dinner, I was more than happy to accept. :)
It was a last minute scramble to make schedules work for everyone just days before Christmas, but we did, indeed, find some delicousness.
This evening almost happened at a cheap little Mexican restaurant in a questionable neighborhood due to conflicting schedules, illness, and a flat tire. Happily, things worked out better and I found some amazing lobster bisque. mmmm. bisque.
Even more fun was being able to play with some new technology while treating my friends to a yummy meal. When I was asked to try Serve, I wasn’t exactly sure what I’d ever need it for. I mean, if I want to pay my friends or give them money, I can just hand them some cash, right? Well, let me just geek out a bit for a minute.
What is Serve?
Serve is a new way to settle up with friends instantly via email or mobile device. Also, it’s safe and secure from American Express {check out www.serve.com/blog to read about all the cool stuff}
Thoughts worth bullet-pointing:
- Setting up a Serve account is quick and easy
- Get $10 just for trying it
- Refer friends to Serve and get up to $50
How does this play in to dinner?
To see how serve worked, I had all of my friends pay their bills how they normally would. I immediately pulled up my Serve iPhone app, hit “split the bill” {I enter the info and it does the math, including the tip. whew!} and it instantly sends my friends there money! No waiting. Amazing.
My favorite feature about this is you actually get a physical card that you can use anywhere that American Express is accepted. It’s not a credit card, so there’s no credit check process. You can link this card to your bank accounts, transfer money between the two, send and receive money, and… ready for this? You can use your card at ATMs. I’m loving that there’s finally a way to send money or pay a friend that allows you to access the funds as soon as they’re sent!
I’m not going to tell you about something that I don’t like.
Like I said, I wasn’t sure how I was going to like Serve… would it really be useful?? True story: I’m in love with it and keep using it daily. I have my husband, my parents, a few good friends all signed up.
