I. Am. So. Exhausted.
We just got home from Christmas/New Years vacation. Traveling today was kind of insane.
So, now I’m sitting in bed, catching up on all things neglected for the past two weeks while we were away; bills, laundry, emails, and sorting through my massive pile of mail {i forgot to stop mail deliver while we were gone. Whoops!}
Our vacation was amazing. We haven’t spent that much time at home since we moved away 2.5 years ago. It made me so happy to actually unpack and stay awhile, visit with everyone, and soak up the really important things during the holidays.
Like I mentioned last year, I don’t do resolutions. It’s just not my thing. I do, however, do a lot of scheming and dreaming about what the next year will hold. I’ve been flipping through my planner and jotting down important dates, plans, dreams, and wishes through various months. I’m madly excited about the potential of 2012. Last year, while it was very trying and had it’s low points, was a year of building foundations and really discovering a lot about myself as a person, a wife, a Christian, a blogger, and a friend. I’m not sure that I’ve ever felt so confident, so optimistic, or so ready to make things happen, going in to a New Year.
In 2012…
Even though I didn’t blog as much in 2011 as I have in years past, I was keeping a daily journal. Something sort of shifted in me… I felt a need to pull back from the internet a bit and keep more to myself. My thoughts were all over the place, so I wanted to keep them contained to a notebook until I worked through them all. I’ve been reading back through that journal and have realized just how much I love self-reflection – it’s such a good tool for me. I’m understanding myself better… my thoughts are clearer {when I’m not sleep deprived, such as now.} That being said, I want to do a lot more journaling in 2012. There’s a few things involved in this idea, so it’s worth a list. I love lists. :)
1} Photo 365
Yes, again. I kept up with it for a couple of months last year, until I broke my lens. Originally, I wanted all of my photos to be taken on my DSLR. I’ve decided that, this year, I can capture my year with whatever camera I happen to have on me – DSLR, iPhone, webcam… whatever. I’m making it more about capturing memories and less about making sure I have perfect exposure.
2} One Little Word
I’m sure some of you have heard this idea already. Basically, you pick one word for the entire year. During the year, you spend time thinking about how to apply that word in your life, you journal the word, blog about it, photograph it, scrapbook it, anything you wish. I’m still narrowing down my word, but I’m really excited about this project.
3} Creative workshops/retreats
I’ve been wanting to do one of these for a while, and I think 2012 would be an amazing year to do so. There are TONS going on all throughout the year in various places, but one I’m keeping on my idea list is the Creative Joy Retreat. It’s five days of writing, yoga, and photography… just throw in some Starbucks and I may cry tears of joy.
4} Making Memories
Along with journaling and photographing, I want to incorporate other fun ideas for making memories that you can enjoy as a couple or a family. One such idea I found while perusing Pinterest, a memory jar! You write down memorable things as they happen, then you open the jar on New Years Eve and enjoying reminiscing. I’d LOVE for hubs and I to make this a tradition. Too cute.
I’m going to embrace this year wholeheartedly. I’m going to make the most of every little thing and not take a single blessing for granted. I hope you’ll do the same. <3
Happy 2012. I sincerely hope it’s your best year yet.
So tell me, why do or don’t you make New Years resolutions?
